A circular 5km-wide impact crater formed 142 million years ago when a comet or asteroid struck the Earth. The erosion-resistant inner ring rises 180m above the surrounding plain. Sacred to the Western Arrernte people, access requires a permit from the Central Land Council. A 2km walking trail explores the inner crater. One of the best-preserved meteorite impact craters on Earth. Sacred to the Arrernte people as the place where a baby fell from the Milky Way in the Dreaming.

Each location is scored from existing data: visitor ratings & review volume (social proof), official verification, amenities, safety warnings, access friction (permits/4WD), and how fresh the info is.
We show a score once a place has at least 5 visitor reviews. Until then the facts on this page come from official sources and site data — no score is invented.
