The MacDonnell Ranges stretch 644km east and west of Alice Springs — an ancient chain of parallel ridges 300–400 million years old, forming one of the most visually spectacular landscapes in Australia. The West MacDonnells contain the major gorge country; the East MacDonnells are more remote and less visited.
