Sir Edward Pellew Islands

An archipelago of 14 islands at the mouth of the McArthur River in the Gulf of Carpentaria. The islands support significant sea turtle nesting populations, dugong herds, and exceptional offshore fishing. Part of the traditional sea country of the Yanyuwa people. Remote access by boat from Borroloola. The Pellew Islands represent some of the most intact coastal wilderness remaining in northern Australia. Sea turtle and dugong populations here are nationally significant.
