A permanent waterhole at the southern base of Uluru — a sacred site to the Anangu people and the home of the ancestral water serpent Wanampi. A short 1km return walk from the Mutitjulu car park passes ancient rock art and interpretive signs about Tjukurpa. Not for swimming — a cultural site only. Mutitjulu Waterhole is one of the few permanent waterholes in the Red Centre and holds deep spiritual significance for the Anangu people. The rock art here is thousands of years old.
