The only town within Kakadu National Park — a small, planned township of 1,200 people built to house uranium mine workers at the Ranger Mine. The township has a supermarket, accommodation, and the remarkable crocodile-shaped Mercure Hotel. The Bowali Visitor Centre is the gateway to the park. Jabiru is Australia's only town built inside a World Heritage national park. The hotel shaped like a crocodile is genuinely memorable.
Solid spot — worth a stop if you're nearby.
