A shallow freshwater dam on the Arnhem Highway 70km east of Darwin, built for a failed rice-growing scheme in the 1950s. Now a world-class bird and wildlife site with boardwalks over the dam wall and through dense wetland vegetation. Over 200 bird species recorded. Pythons and water monitors commonly seen on night walks. One of the easiest places in the NT to see a vast quantity and diversity of waterbirds. The evening light over the dam wall is extraordinary.
Solid spot — worth a stop if you're nearby.
