Buchanan Highway Junction is a fuel stop in Katherine's spectacular gorge country — where 13 sandstone gorges, thermal hot springs, and the transition from tropical to arid create landscapes that stop you in your tracks. In the Territory, the golden rule is simple: never pass a fuel station without filling up. Distances between stops can be 200–300km, and running out of fuel in 40°C heat on a remote highway is no joke. Fill up, grab a cold drink, check your tyres, and ask the locals about road conditions ahead. Remote fuel prices are 30–50% higher than Darwin — budget accordingly.
